Teaching Respect, Character, Conflict Resolution and More
Our character
development course goes far beyond an anger management class. One of
the primary aims of the course is teaching respect for self and others.
As your child progresses through the units, he or she will also learn
the importance of positive character, self acceptance, self control,
anger management, and conflict resolution.
The following
summaries offer more insight into each of the five course components.
And they will give you a hint of what your classroom students, your
child and your whole family can gain from participation.
Unit One -
Character
Have you ever assumed that a person with a pleasant personality must
have a great moral character... only to be disappointed? What character
is and how it differs from personality is introduced in this unit. Your
child/student will learn how to identify and acquire positive values,
develop leadership skills, learn how choices can affect others, and
distinguish between positive and negative influences.
Unit Two -
Acceptance
Your child may be suffering from depression, low self-esteem and
suicidal tendencies. These problems, if ignored, can escalate to
violence, murder or suicide. This unit is about teaching respect for
the self. It teaches your students to accept the physical and moral
characteristics that make them unique.
Your children/students will also learn that positive communication can
result in friendships that are caring and supportive instead of
destructive. Having positive moral goals in life enables them to
practice conflict resolution, avoid negative risk-taking behaviors, and
avoid bad influences.
Unit Three
- Self-Control
Self-control is one of the most significant subjects you can teach
children because they will need it in every aspect of life. It lays the
foundation for many other positive qualities including responsibility,
respect and how to make appropriate choices.
Self-control helps students curtail anger and resentment, leading to
fewer conflicts and less violent behavior. Teaching respect and
self-control gives your student the skills and motivation they need to
practice conflict resolution. And that, in turn, may prevent the
negative consequences of poor choices.
Unit Four
- Respect
We live in a world where disrespect has become commonplace. People
sometimes value their possessions more than other human beings. By
teaching respect, this unit helps students learn the importance of
caring about themselves, others, society and their environment.
They will learn that all life deserves respect and that self-respect is
gained by recognizing one’s own value and ability to contribute to
society.
Unit Five
- Responsibility
In this unit, your child/student will learn how developing a
responsible character can improve their quality of life today and in
the future. Concepts explored include:
How to acquire the mental abilities and practical skills to become a
responsible person.
The benefits of using responsible behavior to avoid taking unwise
risks.
The problems that arise when moral responsibility is lacking from the
lives of individuals and societies.
Examples of how responsible behavior can help keep us safe.
So, as you can see, the Character Course is much more than an anger
management class and digs far deeper to reveal the true strength of
character that exists in every child. It can help make great young
adults out of today's kids.
